ruth asawa

ruth asawa and her crocheted wire sculptures.
(which she says is basically like drawing in the air with wire).

i've been meaning to post about her for a while, especially after seeing her exhibit
at the de young museum while visiting san francisco in 2006.
it was really moving to be able to feel her hands and touch in her works.

her amazing life stories and her art here.
also, the sculpture of ruth asawa : contours in the air.

+ sculture/3-dimensional works are so fascinating - unlike 2d works, like paintings,
which can be like looking into a window of a different world, 3d works stand on our
ground, in our air, yet lives in another universe. that seems to also make it all the more
abstract in contrast...?
